La Baule

The ‘Bretagne Plein Sud, La Baule – Presqu’île de Guérande’ destination: discover festive Brittany! Follow the guide!

The seaside resort of La Baule is famous for its seafront, a place for strolling and lazing on the beach. Two major shopping avenues are home to a wide range of brands.

On Avenue Lajarrige, neighbourhood life with its bakeries, restaurants and florists rubs shoulders with ‘investment’ shops with numerous estate agencies and art galleries.
On the other side of the city is the Avenue du Général de Gaulle, where shoppers will be able to indulge their passion for designer boutiques and big-name brands.

Then, for those who like to browse and search, there is La Baule market and its square, with their string of stalls and boutiques set in bistros and cafés. On Sunday mornings, this square comes alive with the scents of fresh produces, the cries of delight from over some discoveries and the clinking of aperitif glasses toasting together.

The Bay

Pornichet, La Baule, Le Pouliguen are like the Charlie’s Angels…

Born at the end of the 19th century, these famous seaside resorts are characterised by villas with unique and original architecture.

Under the pine trees, villas with Moorish, Basque, English, Art Deco or Belle Epoque influences compete to seduce you. The names of these grand houses—Pax, Régina—take us back to the intimacy of the families to whom they once belonged.

Located in a protected area, they bear witness to a time when bathing in the sea and the arrival of the railway gave rise to the first forms of seaside tourism.

Nearby towns

The cities of Le Croisic, La Turballe, Batz-sur-Mer and Guérande are full of memories. Best known for their tourist attractivity, these towns are also a must for anyone wanting to do a little shopping.

In both La Turballe and Le Croisic, the sea is never far away: buy a raincoat or a marinière for a trip out to sea, stock up on colourful jams at La Belle-Iloise, buy souvenirs at the Comptoir de la mer or simply buy your fish straight from the auction.

In Batz-sur-Mer and Guérande, the shop windows are full of salt marshes. In these two towns, salt is everywhere: coarse salt, flower of salt, flavoured salt, salted butter caramel, Breton palets, kouing bihen, chocolate with flower of salt, salicorne… You can find them in the shops of Terre de Salt, in the chocolate factory of Dousset or directly after production in the small stand of the Saint-Guénolé biscuit factory in Batz-sur-Mer.
